FEATURING A JURY OF INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED MUSICIANS
In 2022, over 250 students across the United States competed in the OPUS Music Competition. The Competition awarded over $5,000 in cash prizes in the national round and shipped awards to all state and national participants.
Students ages 5-18 compete by submitting a video performance as required by their age category. Winners in each state will be chosen by a jury of renowned musicians. The jury will select winners for each instrumental and age category. Prize winners and merit award recipients from each state will be invited to compete at the OPUS National Music Competition for cash prizes & national titles.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Each category is open for students who play violin, viola, cello, or piano. Each category has a time limit for the video performance. Students can create a program with at least 1 composition, and no more than 3, which must fit within their allotted time based on their category.
INSTRUMENTAL CATEGORIES:
Strings, Piano
CATEGORY I: Ages 5-7 | up to 6 minutes
CATEGORY II: Ages 8-10 | up to 8 minutes
CATEGORY III: Ages 11-13 | up to 10 minutes
CATEGORY IV: Ages 14-16 | up to 12 minutes
CATEGORY V: Ages 17-18 | up to 15 minutes

UNIQUE PRIZES | POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
The OPUS Music Competition will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each state for each instrumental and age category. Additionally, multiple merit prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
All other students will receive a unique participation diploma. All winners will be featured on our website & YouTube channel, in addition to press releases through media outlets in each state. Lastly, winners from each state will be invited to compete at the OPUS National Music Competition for cash prizes & national titles.

MTNA Chamber Music Competitions Registration is Now Available!
Chamber Music registration is now available and will be submitted on the Acceptd website. Find guidelines and registration here.
The deadline for Chamber Music entries is Wednesday, December 6, 2023, 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time.
MTNA active membership dues must be paid BEFORE submission of the registration to avoid being assessed the $150 non-member fee.
Due to the anticipated volume of last-minute submissions, MTNA advises you to submit your registration early. Plan to begin your registration so it is completed prior to the deadline. The form automatically closes at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time. Those not completed by that time will not be able to finish their registration form and therefore not be entered into the competition.
Teachers are responsible for verifying all repertoire on the registrations of their students.
The following should be available prior to completing the registration:
Complete repertoire information (title, movement numbers, opus or catalog numbers, tempo markings, complete composer names, historical period and timings).
